“You guys think this is a big joke. We’ve only got one week left before the move. I don’t want any toys left behind. A moving buddy. If you don’t have one, get one! “-Tom Hanks as Woody from the movie Toy Story I
Woody is worried. Andy and his family are moving to a new home and Woody wants to make sure that no toy is left behind. The toys are such a close knit family, that the thought of someone not coming along in the move would be devastating.
You know something? God feels the same way about us. Scripture says Matthew 18:14 (NASB) "So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.
The free gift of salvation is available to everyone who is willing to accept it. It is not God’s desire for anyone to end up in Hell. And make no mistake, being left behind is exactly that. Woody’s concern for his toy friends echoes the same concern our father in heaven has for us. The day is coming, probably sooner than we think, when people will be making the big move from this world to the next, and unless you get a moving buddy, you will not get to go. God doesn’t want that. He really truly wants everyone to be with Him in the end.
John 14:6 (NASB) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Jesus is our moving buddy. He is our way to the new home. If we team up with him, we can be sure we won’t be left behind.
I really like the beginning of this quote when Woody says “You guys think this is a big joke.” There are many people out there who don’t take the idea of salvation seriously. They live their life thinking that they’re a pretty good person. They don’t murder, or steal, or cheat on their spouses. God is love right? He loves all of his children right? He wouldn’t ever turn someone away from heaven right?
Well, quite frankly, yes God is love but:
1. We are all God’s creation, NOT all of us are his children. You become a child of God when you accept the free gift of salvation. To do this you must admit that you are a sinner, admit that there is nothing you can do to earn your way into heaven, and accept that Jesus paid the price that you couldn’t. That when he died for sin, it was YOUR sin he died for. Then you live the rest of your life by his example. Are you perfect from that point on? No. But we become a work in progress.
2. God does and will turn people away from heaven on the day of judgment, no matter how good you think you are. Matthew 7:23 (NASB) "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
Unless you have a relationship with Jesus through salvation you will not enter into heaven.
How can you be sure you are not turned away?
Refer to #1
The bible is full of references to Jesus coming again. On that day, everyone who has Jesus as a moving buddy will get to go on, those who don’t, well, it’s probably about as bad as a toy being left behind in an empty house with no one to play with them.
No, actually according to scripture, it’s worse than that.
Revelation 20:15 (NASB) And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
John 15:6 (NASB)"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.
Psalm 21:9 (NASB) You will make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger; The LORD will swallow them up in His wrath, And fire will devour them.
Moving day is coming people.
Don’t get left behind
